About the Editor

Colin LarkinFor Colin Larkin, the editor and mastermind behind The Encyclopedia of Popular Music®, music is life. During the 1960s, he wrote about the U.S.A.'s exploding West Coast rock scene. In the '70s, Larkin founded his own book publishing company, Scorpion Publishing, where he published such titles as Timeless Flight: The Definitive Story of the Byrds, and Bob Dylan’s Unreleased Recordings.

In 1989, he began the monumental task of producing the first extensive encyclopedia of popular music; the first edition of The Encyclopedia of Popular Music® arrived in 1992, quickly becoming the preeminent reference on popular music. The encyclopedia has generated 56 spin-off books, including the best-selling All Time Top 1000 Albums.

Larkin lives in Suffolk, England.

The Encyclopedia of Popular Music

irst published in 1992, the Encyclopedia of Popular Music® (EPM™) is the world's most authoritative information source on rock, pop, and jazz artists. This comprehensive data set covers the broad sweep of popular music from the 1900s to the present, including folk, blues, country, world, rock, heavy metal, techno, reggae, hip hop, and more. Each biography contains a thorough synopsis about the performer and their body of work, following their career from beginning to end. Compiled by music expert Colin Larkin, the EPM™ marks the history of the players, the producers, and the behind-the-hits stories.

“Remarkably open-minded, crisply
